After receiving feedback from the client, we identified several key adjustments to be made. The client particularly favored the light purple background, which we retained as the primary background color. Additionally, they expressed a liking for the dark black color, which added a premium touch to the video, so we incorporated it strategically. To enhance gender diversity, the client requested the inclusion of a female character in the video. Once we had finalized all these changes within the style guide, we proceeded to the storyboarding phase.

The Approach

For the creation of the illustrative introductory video for the MyIBS app, developed by the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation (CDHF), a meticulous approach was undertaken. This involved thorough research into the app's functionalities and its significance in aiding individuals with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptom tracking.

Close collaboration with the CDHF ensured alignment with their vision and branding guidelines, incorporating feedback to craft a compelling script emphasizing the app's ease of use and comprehensive tracking capabilities. The visual design and storyboarding process focused on creating engaging graphics and animations to illustrate the app's features, while production and post-production phases utilized high-quality filming techniques and editing to deliver a cohesive narrative. Through ongoing review and feedback loops, the final video was refined to effectively communicate the app's benefits, aiming to empower users in managing their IBS symptoms and improving communication with healthcare providers. Additionally, the client's preference for a playful style and vibrant colors, inspired by their app's branding, was integrated to ensure the video's visual appeal resonated with the target audience.

Style Guide

Based on the provided script and client brief, I meticulously crafted three distinct style guides, adhering to the preference for subtle color schemes complemented by the primary blue brand color. The client's directive for realistic product representation and biological imagery guided the creation of styles emphasizing authenticity and realism. Each style embodies a subtle yet realistic approach, tailored to meet the client's request for a faithful portrayal of biological elements.

After reviewing the styles presented, the client expressed a preference for Style 3. However, one modification was requested regarding the scene featuring a hand holding a mobile device with the MyIBS app open, as outlined in the script. Following extensive feedback discussions, it was mutually decided to streamline the focus solely on the application itself. As a result, the hand element was removed from the scene to ensure viewers could fully concentrate on the features and functionality of the MyIBS app.

I developed a comprehensive storyboard, breaking down the script into individual frames for each scene. After finalizing the storyboard, I worked closely with a Motion Artist to provide a detailed explanation of each scene. Together, we transformed the storyboard into captivating motion graphics, resulting in the creation of the video as the final output.
